When the EPA was considering the Clean Power Plan during the Obama Administration, AEMA submitted detailed comments with analysis to back them up, recommending that demand response be included in any final rule. As a result, the final rule from EPA included demand response both as a tool states could use to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and as a reliability solution. AEMA resubmitted those comments with a cover letter to EPA today in response to the repeal of the Clean Power Plan, reiterating our original remarks about the emission reduction benefits of demand response. AEMA plans to submit comments in the new rulemaking as well.
